Musée National des beaux-arts du Québec

Under the initiative of Anne-Marie Bouchard, Curator of Modern Art, a 1956 work by Jean-Paul Jérôme will be shown in November 2019 as part of the exhibition Challenging: 350 Years of Art Practice in Québec. That work, which has never before been exhibited publicly, was created prior to the artist’s leaving for France. Its structural composition calls to mind the spare forms of the 1955 Manifeste series and prefigures the gestural elements that would prevail in Jérôme’s work during his stay in Paris from 1956 to 1958.
